Strayer University In-house Associate General Counsel for Nursing Programs

    Strayer University is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and has been in operation since 1892. The University offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in business administration, accounting, economics, information systems, information technology, human resource management, education, health services administration, public administration, management and criminal justice working adult students at many campuses in multiple states and Washington, D.C., as well as worldwide via the Internet. Strayer University also Offers an executive MBA online through its Jack Welch Management Institute.

    The Associate General Counsel will provide legal advice and serve as in-house counsel Strayer University on matters relating the nursing and health science education programs.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Coordinate regulatory filings with various state agencies.
    • Assist with litigation and administrative proceedings which company is a party.
    • Oversee legal issues and complaints concerning nursing students.
    • Provide legal analysis and advice administrators on policy matters, especially regulatory compliance issues.
    • Investigate legal issues and recommend action administrators.
    • Negotiate and draft contracts such as agreements with vendors, consultants, and corporate alliances; draft legal documents and policies.
    • Collaborate with nursing, health science, and other academic administration in developing, editing, and ensuring compliance with legal regulations on all programmatic materials, procedures, and policies.
    • Final review of nursing and health science related program marketing, public relations, handbooks, manuals, and catalog, student document and other materials.
    • Research state and federal legal questions; Research federal and state rules and regulations affecting nursing and health science program operations.
    • Provides legal and compliance training tin-house clients.
    • Final review of nursing and health science applications and reports accreditation agencies and regulatory bodies. This includes but is not limited to:
      • New program applications and program modifications.
      • Grant applications.
      • Self-study documentation.
      • Site visit preparation.
      • Other reports as requested.
    • Oversee publication production, including tables, graphs, layout, computer typesetting, and printing, ensuring adherence deadlines and budget requirements.



    • Bachelor’s degree and JD from an ABA accredited law school.
    • Associate’s degree in Nursing required, Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred.

    Work Experience:

    • At least five years of experience in the practice of law.
    • Prior experience in higher education strongly preferred.
    • Prior experience in academic nursing administration and accreditation strongly preferred.

    • Strong computer/word processing skills, including knowledge of standard Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

    Certificates, licenses and registrations:

    • Bar admission in any state.
    • Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse license in Virginia (or eligible) and / or DC.
    • Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse license in Florida and Maryland must be obtained within 1 year.
    • Compact State Licensure preferred.
