
The American Association of Nurse Attorneys (TAANA) is pleased to announce the Call for Award Nominations! This year, TAANA will consider candidates nominated for the following award categories:
- Outstanding Section Member
- Outstanding Advocate
- Outstanding Affiliate Advocate
- Cynthia Northrop Distinguished Service
A description of each award is shown below and can also be found at taana.org/awards.
Awards Policy & Eligibility
- Recipients must be a Nurse Attorney and a current member of TAANA in good standing.
- Recipients must be an Affiliate member of TAANA in good standing.
- Nominees will not have received an Award for a period of two years prior.
- Only one recipient will receive an award for a designated award decided by the majority of votes of the Awards Committee.
- Other award-specific requirements are stated in the descriptions below.
Winners will be announced at the 2025 Conference in Arizona!

Outstanding Section Member Award
Recognizes one TAANA section member each year that has demonstrated excellence in providing resources, education, and leadership to the section members, the healthcare and legal communities, and TAANA. Requirements of this award include:
- Members of each TAANA section (Litigation, Health Law and Compliance, Education, Student/First Year Graduate, and Legal Nurse Consulting) are eligible.
- Submit documentation that demonstrates the following: a section member has demonstrated excellence in providing resources, education, and leadership to the section members, the healthcare and legal communities, and TAANA.
Outstanding Advocate Award
Recognizes an individual member’s outstanding legal advocacy. The Awards Committee recognizes that a nurse attorney can be an advocate in varied ways: impacting legislation, authoring works, achieving significant legal rulings, etc. The award is intended to give recognition to a member whose legal theories, strategies, and abilities demonstrate outstanding advocacy. Requirements of the award include:
- The nominee must submit documentation demonstrating that he or she is an outstanding advocate who, through legal skill and ability, has made a significant impact in law. Examples include significant appellate, trial, or administrative law rulings; scholarly publications such as law review articles, journal articles, treatises, and books; or drafting, sponsoring, or otherwise impacting legislation.
Outstanding Affiliate Advocate Award
TAANA established the Outstanding Affiliate Advocate Award to recognize an individual affiliate member's outstanding legal advocacy and contributions to the advancement of TAANA's mission and vision. The award is intended to give recognition to an affiliate member whose legal theories, strategies, and abilities demonstrate outstanding advocacy.
